Water and Foundations

3/4/2020 (Permalink)

Noticeable crack to the foundation of a home. Foundation crack to a home due to water damage.

We are over the winter slump – entering the season of Spring and with Spring comes rain and here lately in the South – A lot of rain! Heavy amounts of rain over a small period of time can cause flooding, septic and home foundation issues.  Water Damage is the number one culprit that weakens your home’s foundation which is the very core that keeps your house standing. Water damage that goes unattended can and will over time cause serious structural damage.  The best line of defense is to make sure your home has proper drainage to keep the water away from your home’s foundation.  Over time the soil around your foundation gets wet and dries out – this causes the soil to expand and contract. Soil changes can cause the foundation to crack, sag and weaken.  Check for moisture often, especially after extended periods of rain. If you see moisture damage to your foundation call a professional quickly to avoid further damages to your home.
