Although we are still a few days away from the “official” first day of summer – but the elevated temperatures we have been experiencing over the past few days would suggest otherwise. The heat index in expected to reach 3 digits over the next few days so preparing now can help you and your family stay safe and cooler during this heat event.

  • Drink water and keep hydrated throughout the day
  • Avoid outside activities or mowing your lawn during the hottest part of the day 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
  • Have your HVAC serviced to assure it is in good working condition
  • Keep your blinds and curtains closed during the day
  • Utilize your attic fan or ventilator to regulate heat levels and remove hot air from your attic
  • Bring your pets inside or keep them in a shady area replenish their water often
  • Check on your family and friends who are elder or more susceptible to illness

Following these safety tips can keep you cooler and safer during an extreme heat event.
